Anitza Guadarrama-Tiernan was an important force behind MLK day celebrations this year.
Anitza Guadarrama-Tiernan (CAS’99, SSW’01), assistant director of the Howard Thurman Center, is looking forward to a busy second semester organizing various events and working with the center’s team of 11 student ambassadors, a leadership group “committed to building community.”
Guadarrama-Tiernan recently participated in the planning and execution of the University’s 17th annual Martin Luther King Day commemoration. “We’ve received so much positive feedback from students, faculty, and staff,” she says.
Currently, the student ambassador team is creating a free coloring book for children ages four to six, whose theme, “Unity of all life,” reflects the group’s mission — promoting community, leadership, and respect.
In addition, Guadarrama-Tiernan, who previously worked as a grants manager at the Massachusetts Children’s Trust Fund, will develop various cultural awareness events this semester, focusing on folklore and heritage.
