Excellence in arthritis care earns MED prof award
Thomas Einhorn, MED chair and BMC chief of orthopedic surgery, receives an award from the Arthritis Foundation.

Thomas Einhorn, a School of Medicine professor of orthopedic surgery, biochemistry, and biomedical engineering and chairman of orthopedic surgery and Boston Medical Center chief of orthopedic surgery, will be honored by the Arthritis Foundation Massachusetts Chapter with the Dr. Marian Ropes Award on Friday, October 6.
The award, given for excellence in arthritis care and leadership in the fight against arthritis, annually recognizes the work of one orthopedic surgeon and one rheumatologist. Einhorn will accept the award at the 12th annual Physician Achievement Award Dinner at the Fairmont Copley Plaza, along with rheumatologist Allen Steere, director of clinical research and rheumatology at Massachusetts General Hospital.
Einhorn attributes his receipt of the award to his “research on the repair and regeneration of bone and cartilage,” as well as his clinical work performing total hip and knee replacement surgery on patients.
“It’s a huge honor,” says Einhorn. “The people who have received the award before me are giants in their field, and I’m honored to be named among them.”
