TV’S “Pose” and the Impact of Black and Latinx LGBTQ Stories
Film experts Roy Grundmann and Maura Smith, faculty at BU’s College of Communication, will discuss the history, impact, and importance of Black LGBTQ representation in film and television with Steven Canals, cocreator and executive producer of Pose, a drama series on FX that made history for pulling together the largest cast of transgender actors ever in a television series. The show, set amidst the HIV/AIDS epidemic, centers on trans, gay, and gender nonconforming characters in 1980s New York. Together, Grundmann and Smith bring to the discussion their expertise in LGBTQ film history and theory research and in directing and producing for film and television.
