CRC Graduate Housing Additional Occupants Policy

Boston University Graduate Housing offers graduate students in eligible units the option to add additional occupants to their Graduate Residence License Agreement. Eligibility for housing with additional occupants depends on the unit’s space and occupancy limits.

Note: BU Housing does not match or automatically assign graduate students to other graduate student roommates.

Guidelines for Additional Occupants

Eligibility and Application

  • Graduate students may list up to two additional occupants on their graduate Residence License Agreement through the CRC Graduate Housing Application.
  • Additional occupants can only be added before the term agreement starts. Mid-term additions are not permitted.
  • Additional occupants do not have to be affiliated with Boston University.

Policies and Responsibilities

  • Additional occupants are not considered co-signers and do not have individual rights to the on-campus housing unit.
  • Only the main occupant has individual rights and responsibilities for the housing unit. Boston University Graduate Housing has no responsibility or obligation to remove or relocate additional occupants.
  • Students are not allowed to bring their own furniture, even if they have an additional occupant listed.

Room Selection Restrictions

  • During the graduate room selection process, students will not be able to select lodging houses (183 Bay State Road, 850 Beacon Street, 90 St. Mary’s Street) if they have an additional occupant listed on their application.

Requirement for Children Under Six

  • If any additional occupants are children aged 6 or younger, a de-leaded unit is required. BU Housing, will reach out to students who have additional occupants under the age of 6 listed on their agreement with instructions on how to select a unit.
