“Bruen’s Burdens in the Ongoing Fight Against Gun Violence”

Michael Ulrich will speak at the Hall Center Virtual Grand Rounds “Bruen’s Burdens in the Ongoing Fight Against Gun Violence” on Sep 14, 2023 at 01:00pm. 

Professor Ulrich’s lecture will discuss the gun violence epidemic in the United States and how the Supreme Court’s most recent Second Amendment decision is likely to exacerbate the problem. In particular, the presentation will discuss how the Court ignored public health research in reaching its decision and may have created a barrier in the relevance of empirical data in future evaluations of constitutionality for firearm laws. This could have a broad impact on health outcomes, well beyond the increasing rate of firearm homicides, and may be especially problematic for minoritized, marginalized, and under-served populations.
