Biography

Maureen Tracy Leo has a deep background in international legal education and teaching.  Prior to attending law school, Maureen enjoyed working in a variety of contexts from interning at the White House to working at a homeless shelter for women and children with the Jesuit Volunteer Corps. After graduating from law school, she clerked for Judge William M. Nickerson of the U.S. District Court for the District of Maryland and later moved to Boston where she worked for a large corporate law firm. Feeling the call to return to public service, she served as Assistant Regional Counsel to the Department of Children and Families where she litigated child abuse and neglect cases and later served as a court investigator for the juvenile court for over a decade.   

Upon the birth of her eldest child, Maureen transitioned to academia and began teaching Legal Research and Writing. Alongside teaching, Maureen also worked as an Attorney Advisor in the Office of Professional Development at OGIP, a public interest/pro bono career advisor in the Career Development Office at BU Law and later as the Associate Director for the American Law Program.

Maureen now serves as the Director of International Graduate Programs. As such, she oversees management of both the American Law and Intellectual Property LLM Programs. Having taught for nearly two decades, she also oversees the LLM Legal Research and Writing Program and teaches a section of that course.  Maureen’s work focuses on cultivating an unparalleled experience for students both inside and outside of the classroom—from pre-arrival advising and orientation through registration, event planning and commencement.

Maureen recently earned a Master’s in Education, focusing on Educational Leadership and Policy Studies from Boston University Wheelock College. She graduated summa cum laude from American University- Washington College of Law and earned her Bachelor of Arts from Loyola University Maryland. Maureen spent her junior year abroad studying political science at the Katholieke Universiteit Leuven, Belgium.  

The mother of four children, you can find Maureen playing on mountains in skis or hiking boots across New England. She has traveled extensively with her husband and young children in tow and can name the cheapest place to order an ice cream in most of the world’s capitals. Maureen considers herself blessed each day to be able to work with the best students on earth from her office in Boston.
