In Memoriam: Professor Julius B. Levine

An esteemed professor of civil procedure and trial advocacy, Levine taught at the school for more than 30 years.

Professor Julius Levine

Professor of Law Emeritus Julius B. Levine, who taught at Boston University School of Law for more than 30 years, passed away on Tuesday, April 10, 2018. Before his retirement in 2002, he taught civil procedure, trusts and estates, and served as the director of the Trial Advocacy Program.

Professor Levine authored books and numerous articles on the discovery process in trials and effective forms of trial advocacy. As stated in his memorial, he was “committed to public service, he served as an elected Brookline Town Meeting member, delegate to Democratic state and national conventions, member of Boston and Brookline Democratic committees, candidate for other offices, and Assistant District Attorney. He was also active in movements to protect crime victims and promote affordable housing and ‘clean elections.’ ”

Professor Levine grew up in Waterville, Maine, and attended Harvard College, Harvard Law School, and received his doctorate of philosophy from Oxford University. He clerked for Hon. Edward T. Gignoux of the US District Court for Maine and practiced law in Maine and Massachusetts.

The family will sit shiva in Sharon starting Saturday evening at the home of Rachel Levine and Aryeh Feder.

Visiting hours will be as follows: Motzei Shabbat 8:30-10:00pm; Sunday- Tuesday between 9:00am-11:30am; 1:00pm-5:00pm and 7:00-9:00pm.

The schedule for minyanim is as follows:
Sunday, April 15 – Shacharit 8:00 am – Mincha/Maariv 7:06 pm
Monday, April 16 – Shacharit 6:50 am – Mincha/Maariv 7:06 pm
Tuesday April 17 – Shacharit 6:50 am – Mincha/Maariv 7:06 pm
Wednesday April 18 – Shacharit 6:50 am – No Mincha/Maariv

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Beth Israel Congregation, P.O. Box 1882, Waterville, ME 04903, the Lunder-Dineen Health Education Alliance of Maine, P.O. Box 1505, Bangor, ME 04402-1505, or the Angel Fund for ALS Research, 649 Main Street, Wakefield, MA 01880.

Mr. Levine’s son, James, has requested memories of his father be left on his memorial page.
