Legal and Ethical Issues of Big Data, AI, and Machine Learning in Medicine

Harvard Law professor Glenn Cohen delivers BU Law’s fourteenth annual Pike Lecture.

Boston University School of Law’s annual Pike Lecture presented by Harvard Law Professor and Faculty Director for Petrie-Flom Center for Health Law Policy, I. Glenn Cohen, covered the legal and ethical implications of big data, artificial intelligence, and machine learning in medicine.

Cohen addressed concerns over patient privacy, informed consent, liability, intellectual property, and discrimination stemming from technological advancements in healthcare. He discussed how the medical profession and patient experience can improve using data while being vigilant of the associated legal and ethical issues.

The Pike Lecture on Health Law is held in honor of BU Law alumnus (LAW’37, CAS’50, Hon.’96), the first blind person to be admitted to practice before the Bar of the US Supreme Court.
