It will be convenient to put a shortcut link to HOD on the PC desktop. This will allow you to double-click the icon and go directly to the UIS screen, without any additional clicks or steps.

Note: The following steps detail how to set up a bookmark using Internet Explorer. The steps may be different for other browsers.

Step 1:

Start HOD: www.bu.edu/uis_web3270. (Note: that there is an underscore character (“_”) between “uis” and “web” in the link.)

Step 2:

Right-click on the UIS session you need (Mod 2, Mod 5, or FTP). Select “Set Up Bookmark.”
For a typical UIS (Galaxy) session, use the UISA 3270-2 icon.

Step 3:

Click on “Run in Separate Window.”

Step 4:

The UIS screen will start and will display the message “Bookmark this session now.” Click “OK.”

Step 5:

From the Windows Taskbar, switch to the IE browser window (vs. the UIS window). From the main menu, select “Favorites,” then “Add to Favorites.”

Step 5 (continued):

From the main menu, select “Favorites,” then “Add to Favorites.” The name will be “UIS Web 3270.” Click “OK.”

Step 6:

Again, from the browser’s menu, select “Favorites,” and scroll down to the “UIS Web 3270” bookmark. Right-click on the “UIS Web 3270” link and select “Send to” then select “Desktop.” An HOD shortcut to UIS will be created on the desktop.

Step 6 (continued):

Right-click on the “UIS Web 3270” link and select “Send to” then select “Desktop.” An HOD shortcut to UIS will be created on the desktop. The shortcut will be titled “UIS Web 3270.”

Step 7:

Close all open windows. From the Desktop, double click on the HOD UIS shortcut you just created. The browser window will start, then the UIS terminal session will start. (You can maximize the UIS terminal session window.)

Please Note: When you use HOD, the browser (IE, for example) MUST continue to be active. If you close IE while using HOD, your UIS session will be disconnected and data may be lost.

Also:

• The browser does not have to remain maximized.
• The browser can be used to navigate to other websites
