To get HOD to access the UIS mainframe, go to: www.bu.edu/uis_web3270.
(Note: there’s an underscore character between “uis” and “web” in the address.)
The program will then begin to download and a series of dialog boxes will appear. The installation process will determine which version of Java (1 or 2) is installed on your computer. Please follow the set of instructions for the version of Java that is appropriate for your computer.

Note: If you did not allow pop-ups from the BU site (previous section), you will need to temporarily unblock pop-ups during the final steps of the installation. See the Blocked Pop-up section for details.

Click “Always” to have this trusted Java applet registered on your PC.

Click on “OK.”

Once the program has finished downloading, the HOD main screen will appear.
Host On-Demand Main Screen
At this point, you can choose a 3270 session or an FTP session. There are two 3270 sessions defined. UISA 3270-2 is an 80-column screen (Mod-2). UISA 3270-5 is a 132-column screen (Mod-5).
For a typical UIS (Galaxy) session double-click the UISA 3270-2 icon.
The UISA FTP icon will start an FTP session for file transfers to/from the UIS mainframe. The Non-UISA FTP icon will allow user customization to connect and transfer files to/from any other FTP site. (See Using HOD for FTP.)

If you have pop-ups blocked, they must be temporarily allowed for the HOD installation to continue.
Click “OK” to clear the error.
Right-click in the pop-up notice (the yellow bar under the address) and select “Temporarily Allow Pop-ups.” See the next screen shot for an example. (Note this example shows the blocked pop-up from Internet Explorer. Other pop-up blockers such as Google or Yahoo must also be temporarily disabled.)

After the pop-ups have been temporarily allowed, click “OK” again. HOD will restart the download process.

Once the program has finished downloading, the next dialog box will appear.

Click “OK.” Then close the browser and restart it. Then, navigate back to www.bu.edu/uis_web3270.
