  1. Congratulations!

When I was a graduate student at COM in 2001, Caryl gave a talk to the Freshman COM 101 class. I was a teaching assistant for the class, so I was lucky to hear her inspirational speech on her career in journalism and what the profession means to her.

During that talk, she said what was to me one of the most meaningful things I heard during my year as a journalism grad student.

Caryl told the students that as a journalist, they would definitely not be the richest or highest paid person at a party, but they would no doubt be the most interesting.

Having left a career on Wall St. to go to BU and later into newspapers, that quote has stuck with me ever since.

    Thanks Caryl.
