There are 6 comments on Student-Run Campaign Focuses on Sexual Assault Response

      1. It’s the first thing you read. It’s in the cut line below the photo. It is irresponsible journalism to keep repeating this grossly exaggerated, spuriously derived number. A serious problem has been turned into a moral panic, which in turn has produced all sorts of misconceptions and bad policies.

    1. The incidence of sexual crimes on college campuses is no different than for the national population of young adults. Secondary schools, and local communities as a whole, are not required to compile data on sexual offenses or to submit them to a federal or state agency. In fact, they are not required to submit any crime data to the FBI or any other federal agency.

    2. To those seeking to discredit the 1 In 5 statistic: what’s your point? Should colleges & law enforcement neglect the problem on campuses? Or do you want sexual assault taken seriously throughout the whole country? Hopefully it’s the latter — otherwise you’re part of the problem, not the solution.

    3. Asdf………..so what are you saying? That 1-in-10 is okay? Or 1-in-15? To paraphrase from a movie……….some are “drowning and you’re trying to describe the water.”

The data is there to suggest that sexual assault on college campuses is a problem. The data indicates that much of it goes unreported. (College counselors will tell you this as well) I mean, a campaign is off and running to address a serious issue of personal safety and well-being among females……and you’re only comment is “‘one in five’ has been debunked”??? I mean WTH!!!
