There are 3 comments on What Led to the Resignation of Puerto Rico’s Embattled Governor?

  1. This one article about Puerto Rico can replace the last ten from mainstream media. Or so it feels. Succinct, efficient storytelling here.

Thank you Susan Eckstein and Rich-From-Trenton.

  2. The Jones Act does not prevent other ships from delivering cargo to Puerto Rico. It applies only to cargo being transported from and to US ports and Puerto Rico. According to USDOT, over 57% of vessel calls to PR are from foreign vessels. This misinformation has been repeated so many times it has become an urban legend!!

  3. Many thanks to my colleague Susan Eckstein for her comments on the current crisis in Puerto Rico. Puerto Rico’s principal problem is having been a colony of the United States since the Spanish-American War of 1898. The process whereby Puerto Rico can begin to climb out of its current malaise will have to include decolonization. The U.S. will have to provide the resources to make sure that the process of decolonization can be carried out successfully.
